Do Volunteers Have Rights?
Volunteering embodies a spirit of generosity and community contribution and that contribution is highly valued by organisations and the community. Unlike employees or workers, volunteers who gift their time freely, operate without a formal contract of employment and so they do not have employment rights or obligations. Volunteers do have rights as individuals, which might apply to situations they face in their volunteer roles.

Applying to be a volunteer
With GoVolHerts it's easy to find volunteer roles and contact the organisers to let them know you’re interested. But what happens next? Find out about possible steps to expect on the path to becoming a volunteer.

Corporate Volunteering
Private enterprises and employers have always engaged with their communities and supported charitable activity, doing much more than just donating funds. Indeed many charities have been founded by business people and the experience and skills of professionals who choose to volunteer is often at the heart of charity governance and operations.
Youth Volunteering
Volunteering is a great way for young people to get involved in something meaningful while building skills and confidence, meeting new people, trying new things and gaining experience for the future. All while making a real difference in your community.
There are fantastic youth programmes with a volunteering element such as Duke of Edinburgh, Scouts, Guides, and Cadet schemes, and plenty of other opportunities to get involved.
Flexible Volunteering
Can't commit to a long term role due to family, work or other responsibilities, but still want to be part of something in your community?
Flexible volunteering opportunities such as one-off or short term volunteering could be for you!
