We are seeking a trustee with experience of the charity and voluntary sector to strengthen our understanding of the sector, good practice and the opportunities.

Help Shape the Future of Recovery in Hertfordshire

The Living Room is a Hertfordshire charity providing free, abstinence-based recovery support for adults affected by substance use or addictive behaviours, alongside support for family members, friends and carers. As a Lived Experience Recovery Organisation (LERO), lived experience is at the heart of our leadership, culture and services.

We are looking for a trustee with experience of working or leading within the charity or voluntary sector. Whether you've been a charity CEO, senior manager or have significant sector experience, your understanding of how charities operate will help guide our next stage of development.

As a trustee, you will:

  • Help shape the charity's strategic direction.
  • Share your charity sector knowledge and experience.
  • Support good governance and sustainable growth.
  • Provide constructive support and challenge to the executive team.
  • Help ensure more people can access life-changing recovery support.

In return, you'll join a passionate and ambitious board, broaden your governance experience, and help shape an organisation that is recognised nationally for putting lived experience at the centre of recovery.

No previous trustee experience is required. A full induction, mentoring and ongoing support will be provided.

Time commitment: Approximately 4–6 board meetings a year, plus preparation and occasional involvement between meetings (around 4–6 hours per month).

We warmly welcome applications from people with lived experience of recovery, or of supporting a family member or loved one, although this is not essential. We believe the strongest boards combine professional expertise with diverse life experiences and perspectives.
