We are seeking a trustee with experience in business development, partnerships or income generation.

Help Grow Recovery Across Hertfordshire

The Living Room is a Hertfordshire charity providing free, abstinence-based recovery support for adults affected by substance use or addictive behaviours, alongside support for family members, friends and carers. As a Lived Experience Recovery Organisation (LERO), lived experience is at the heart of our leadership, culture and services.

We're looking for someone who enjoys building relationships, creating opportunities and helping organisations thrive. You may have experience in business development, partnerships, fundraising, marketing, sales, account management or another role where you've helped grow an organisation or developed strong external relationships.

As a trustee, you will:

  • Help shape the charity's strategic direction.
  • Share your knowledge and experience to support sustainable growth.
  • Identify opportunities for partnerships, funding and collaboration.
  • Act as an ambassador for The Living Room and help raise our profile.
  • Help ensure more people can access life-changing recovery support.

In return, you'll join a supportive and ambitious board, broaden your governance experience and use your skills to make a lasting difference to people, families and communities across Hertfordshire.

No previous trustee experience is required. A full induction, mentoring and ongoing support will be provided.

Time commitment: Approximately 4–6 board meetings each year, plus preparation and occasional involvement between meetings (around 4–6 hours per month).

We welcome applications from people with lived experience of recovery, or of supporting a family member or loved one, although this is not essential. We believe the strongest boards bring together professional expertise, diverse perspectives and lived experience to help shape the future of recovery.
