Summary

Mental health charity seeks committed, local board members to shape and deliver our strategy. Roles and hours flexible. Training & mentoring offered.

Detailed description

Mind in Mid Herts is a well-established local charity supporting the recovery of those experiencing mental health issues. We do this through our dedicated workforce (employees 45 volunteers 70) working across four leased premises offering a range of services that educate and promote a proactive approach to mental health. At any one time we will be supporting circa 1000 people with the expectation that the need for our services will increase in this very challenging social and economic environment.

We are funded from a range of sources (total circa £900K) which has grown progressively over recent years and have received a significant donation towards the purchase of a freehold site. We are an active member of the national Mind Federation and have strong productive relations with our partner organisations.

We are very proud of what we have achieved over recent years, in the difference it has made for many and how our staff and volunteers have developed. But we recognise that there is so much more we can do and that we need to strengthen our base to be able to build for the future. At our recent AGM we set out our 5 Priorities over next 3 years

  1. Build organisational stability and the capacity to grow
  2. Income growth & diversification
  3. New membership model
  4. Develop corporate partners
  5. Increase community resilience
  6. Help more people recover and stay well
  7. Increase our shared decision making.
  8. Purchasing a new building that will give MiMH’s a secure base for the future

We are therefore seeking new Board members to shape and deliver our strategy over the next period.

Have been operating with Board of circa 12 but some recent changes mean we have opportunities to recruit. Trustee membership is a mixture of backgrounds & experience, and the average tenure is 3-5 years. We particularly recognise need for locally based trustees. Currently meets five times a year as a Board and in addition Trustees are asked to support at least one of our sub committees. Involvement is flexible built around individual trustees and ideally, we would look for a commitment of circa 10-15 hours a month

The areas where we would welcome skills & expertise are.

•     Community & Corporate Fundraising knowledge

•     Property Development and management experience & knowledge

•     Major Donor relationship building

•     People and Organisation Development
