Share your mechanical skills; help keep Harpenden Mencap's vehicles roadworthy.
Harpenden Mencap's fleet of four vehicles provides vital transport to members of our community getting out and about for medical appointments, shopping trips, social events, and other excursions. The vehicles are: Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) Ford Tourneo and Kia Caren, and Renault Trafic and VW Caddy.
Key responsibilities
Conducting vehicle maintenance checks such as:
- Functionality of tyres, lights, mirrors, indicators and wipers
- Instruments and equipment inside the vehicle including seat belts, horn, ramp and WAV operation
- Fuel, oil and washer fluid levels - and refilling as required
- Ensuring all safety equipment required is present
- Ensuring vehicles are clean inside and out
- Completing necessary paperwork
Fuel card and maintenance supplies will be provided.
Desirable skills
- Experience in vehicle maintenance, whether this is from maintaining your own vehicle or professional experience.
- Full UK driving licence and comprehensive driving insurance.
- Good attention to detail and confidence to raise any issues.
- Good time-keeping, reliability and organisational skills.
Location
Our vehicles are based at our Supported Living services in Harpenden town centre and Batford. We are looking for either one volunteer to cover both locations, or two volunteers who can each support one of the locations.
