We are looking for a Finance Trustee to join our Board and support the charity in maintaining strong financial oversight and sustainable growth.
GRIT is a charity supporting young people to improve their mental health through group boxing programmes, workshops and one-to-one coaching.
As Finance Trustee, you will support the Board in overseeing the charity’s financial health and ensuring strong financial governance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting financial oversight and strategic financial planning
- Advising on budgeting, reserves and financial risk management
- Helping the Board understand financial reports and key risks
- Supporting compliance with financial and regulatory responsibilities
- Contributing to long-term sustainability and organisational planning
- Providing constructive challenge and guidance around financial decision-making
We're looking for someone who has:
- A background in finance, accounting or financial management
- Experience in financial oversight, reserves management or risk management
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
- An interest in supporting young people and the charity sector
Charity finance experience is welcomed but not essential.
If you do not have direct trustee experience but believe your skills and values align with GRIT’s work, we would still encourage you to apply.
Essential Requirements
All trustees are expected to demonstrate:
- A strong commitment to GRIT’s mission and values
- An understanding of trustee responsibilities and legal duties
- The ability to think strategically and contribute to collective decision-making
- Good judgement, professionalism and integrity
- A willingness to respect confidentiality and safeguarding responsibilities
- The ability to commit time consistently to the role
- Willingness to undertake a DBS check
Time Commitment
Trustees are expected to attend:
- Four Board meetings per year (approximately two hours each)
- Around three to four hours per month outside of meetings for preparation and involvement
Occasionally, trustees may also contribute to additional projects such as strategy development or recruitment.
Trustee Responsibilities and Legal Duties
Trustees are responsible for ensuring that the charity:
- Operates in line with its charitable purpose and for the public benefit
- Uses resources responsibly and effectively
- Complies with legal and regulatory requirements
- Maintains appropriate oversight, governance and accountability
- Trustees must act with reasonable care and skill and always in the best interests of the charity.

Growing Resilience in Teens (GRIT) supports young people to improve their mental health through group boxing programmes, workshops and one-to-one coaching. Young people come to us from a variety of routes, including health care professionals, education settings and self- referrals – the majority of referrals come to us directly from schools.
