About GATE Herts

GATE Herts, established in July 2010 as a not-for-profit community organisation and registered charity in 2019 (Charity No. 1183517), is dedicated to advancing the rights and well-being of Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller (GRT) communities. Our organisation is GRT-led, with a mission to foster the full integration of our communities into mainstream society while honouring and preserving our distinct culture and heritage.
Our aims and purpose encompass:
- Empowering GRT individuals: We strive to enhance the capacity and skills of socially and economically disadvantaged GRT members, both locally in Hertfordshire and beyond, enabling them to identify and address their needs and participate more fully in society.
- Research and awareness: We conduct or commission research to highlight the inequality and discrimination faced by GRT communities. Through raising awareness, we aim to promote understanding and action to address these issues.
- Social inclusion: We work to promote social inclusion for GRT individuals who face marginalisation due to their ethnicity. By tackling underlying inequalities and discrimination, we seek to ensure that all members of our communities have equal opportunities and access to resources.
With these aims and purpose at the core of our work, GATE Herts is committed to advocating for racial equality and social justice for GRT communities, striving to create a more inclusive and equitable society for all.
