Volunteers support young people who are facing barriers to education and employment.

At the ELSA Discover Believe Become day, Year 8 students take part in real-world recruitment and workplace activities used by local, national, and international employers. Throughout the day, they experience team and individual challenges, creative problem solving, customer service scenarios, practical tasks, and mock interviews, all supported by encouraging business volunteers.

We are inviting professionals to join us as mock interviewers or workshop supporters. No preparation is needed. We provide example interview questions and guidance on the day, and you are welcome to adapt your approach to suit the students you are working with. Simply bring your experience and be yourself. We will make sure you feel comfortable and confident when you arrive.

The aim of the day is to give students a meaningful insight into recruitment processes and the skills employers value most, while building confidence through supportive conversations and activities.

Your involvement truly makes a difference. Many students may feel a little unsure at the start of the day, but with encouragement from volunteers and staff, they begin to engage, share their ideas, and grow in confidence.

Volunteers will:

  • Support small groups of students during activities
  • Take part in mock interviews and simple recruitment challenges
  • Share insights about the workplace and career journeys
  • Encourage students and help them recognise their strengths

ELSA workshops focus on networking, employability skills, interactive tasks, and raising aspirations. The environment is supportive, well guided by staff, and often incredibly uplifting for everyone involved.

Volunteer support is vital to these ELSA events. With the help of community and business professionals, we can inspire and prepare young people for their future pathways.

If you would like to get involved, or would find it helpful, we would be delighted to arrange a short Teams call to talk through the format of the day and answer any questions. Please do get in touch.

Many thanks!
