Support the students whilst they create their own CV and Cover Letters
Volunteers at the ELSA CV and Cover Letter workshop will act as Table Buddies, supporting small groups of students. They will encourage engagement, guide discussions, and offer feedback as students draft their CVs and cover letters.
The young people attend this alternative educational provision, having made the decision to self-exclude from mainstream education, due to struggles with bullying, mental health, trauma and bereavement, for example.
There is huge anxiety in the young people. They attend, at times get overwhelmed with just 1-1's and so this day is asking a huge amount of everyone involved.
They may need 'time out' but staff will facilitate this and please, do not think it is in any way personal to you. It is simply that the young person, may need to de-escalate, have space or simply needs to feel safe.
Many of the students have missed huge amounts of socialisation and education.
No prior experience is needed—volunteers provide real-world insight, share tips from their own careers, and help students feel confident as they learn the essential skills for applying to jobs and apprenticeships.
All resources will be provided. It is a wonderfully uplifting day!
We want every ELSA volunteer to feel confident and fully prepared. To support this, we would be delighted to offer a short Teams call to walk you through the day’s format, explain how your involvement will make a real difference for the young people, and answer any questions you may have.
Thank you!
