You will be responding to our ad-hoc requests for research and content development. This role can be completed from home. Pic credit: StockSnap / Pixabay
What will you be doing?
You will be responding to our ad-hoc requests for research and content development. We aim to publish a few engaging reports / analyses each year in our core policy areas such as nature and the environment, water issues, and specific development issues like brownfield redevelopment. Once we have agreed the topic with you, you will be conducting online research and then drafting the written piece, distilling important and sometimes complex ideas into an easy-to-read and digestible format.
What are we looking for?
You should have a minimum of three years professional experience in a role where you have been personally responsible for creating written materials for publication to an internal or external audience. This could be in a technical or commercial role, or might be in roles such as journalism, communications, science, consultancy, law or some other professional field.
You should also have:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to make sense of complex information, as well as being able to distil this into easy-to-digest, engaging written pieces;
- Experience conducting online research into complex topics;
- Readily available access to a computer and the internet at home, and up-to-date computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel;
- Close attention to detail, and be well-organised and reliable;
- The ability to commit to volunteering intermittently depending on our content creation needs, with occasional attendance at meetings to discuss projects and drafts; and
- Have an interest in the countryside and environmental issues.
What difference will you make?
At CPRE Hertfordshire we want to encourage everyone to connect with the countryside and value and enjoy it. As part of our volunteer team, you will be playing a vital role in our core work of informing people about threats and news relating to our countryside, and helping us to keep people informed on how to protect it for future generations.
What’s in it for the volunteer?
Some of our existing volunteers have been with us for many years. Why do they volunteer with us and what will you get out of it?
- Use your skills and experience to make a positive difference to the countryside
- Have the satisfaction of making a real difference
- Learn new skills and gain knowledge and experience in a new area
- Have some variety from your regular work or routine
- Meet like-minded people and enjoy being part of a team
- We’ll support you to develop in your volunteering role and provide relevant training
- Get involved with events and workshops on a local and national level, including induction sessions
- The opportunity to learn about various issues facing the countryside, should you wish to become more involved in our work
- We can give you a reference for your future work or volunteering

About CPRE Hertfordshire
We are Hertfordshire's countryside charity, we work across the county to stand up for our countryside and green spaces. We rely on committed volunteers, like you, to help us achieve our aim to protect, promote and enhance the countryside for everyone to value and enjoy.
Green Belt is the countryside next door for a lot of people and its role has never been more important, while the threat of development has never been greater. It provides for nature, reduces the impact of climate change and gives people access to green spaces. In much of our campaign work we fight to uphold the protection of the Green Belt.
