Working on a 1:1 basis with identified service users and their babies e.g., supporting with mother and baby care and activities,

HPFT is committed to providing excellent health and social care for people with mental ill health, physical ill health and those with a learning disability. This voluntary role is within in an inpatient mental health setting specialising in the treatment of acutely unwell mothers who come to us with their babies (Thumbswood Mother and Baby Unit).


The role will involve working on a 1:1 basis with identified service users and their babies. For example, supporting with mother and baby care and activities, walks around the garden, escorting Mums to shops/ other community resources on foot, social chat.


There are no formal qualifications required for this role.

·       Good communication skills, reliable and trustworthy.

·       An understanding the importance of confidentiality and maintaining safe working boundaries is essential.

·       The ability to approach people and engage them in conversation is a pre-requisite as is the ability to listen without prejudice or judgement.

·       Experience of caring for children either professionally or as a parent.
