Detailed description
Computer Friendly is a non-profit organisation with a team of 50 + friendly volunteer trainers who help adults learn how to use smartphones, tablets/iPads, laptops and the Internet in a less formal, hands-on way. In 2020 we were awarded the very prestigious Queens Award for Voluntary Service.
We run about 60 courses a year in Harpenden and St Albans: Our popular ‘Starting Off With…’ courses are designed for people completely new to their Windows laptop, iPad/iPhone or Android phone/tablet. Follow-on ‘Getting More From…’ courses are also available, along with courses on hobbies such as ‘Family History using the Internet’, ‘Photography on iPad/iPhone’ and ‘Stay Safe Online’.
You don’t need to be an expert to help on many of our courses, and we can help fill in any gaps you may have to help with the courses.
Computer Friendly would welcome Volunteers in the Harpenden and St Albans area to help run our courses or our Drop In sessions. A level of knowledge of technology is helpful as well as confidence and patience with in dealing with the people who have issues with mobile phones/ Tablets/ Computers.
Drop-in sessions – These are held as follows:
1st Wednesday of the month 9.30-12 at the HUB, Civic Centre, St Albans
Thursday afternoons 1.30-4 at Marshalswick Baptist Free Church, St Albans
Saturday afternoons 2.30-4 at the St Albans Islamic Centre, Hatfield Road, St Albans.
If you are technically oriented and like a challenge then this volunteering opportunity is for you. Our customers come to us with every sort of computer problem that you can imagine and some that you cannot! You don’t have to be an expert in everything but patience and a desire to help others is key. Your skills may be Windows, Android tablets, phones, iPads, Software or Social Media apps. Just contact us for an informal discussion.
