Summary
Action Learning offers participants insight, help and development with volunteering issues, through a supported group process.Detailed description
At GoVolHerts, we believe in empowering people working with volunteers, like you, to unlock your full potential. That's why we're thrilled to offer you FREE OF CHARGE this special programme of supported peer learning, over five sessions running from November 2025 to March 2026.
Who is the programme for?
People in Hertfordshire who have a responsibility for managing volunteers, who are seeking to develop their personal skills, share experiences with others in a similar role, gain insights and improve their problem-solving to work more effectively with volunteers.
You'll engage in a safe, confidential learning environment amongst your peers, using a group coaching model to collaborate on challenges and explore solutions. This approach has a transformational effect on individuals and organisations alike.
Why take part?
Previous participants scored the programme very highly and have shared that it helped them work through live issues in their roles, address their doubts, feel more confident in their skills and abilities, solve problems, and learn new approaches and tools.
One of last year's participants said "I feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to engage in this closed-group over an extended period."
Don't miss out on this opportunity to enhance your skills and take your organisation to the next level!
What is Action Learning?
Action Learning is a way to tackle organisational issues in real-time, in a safe and confidential learning environment amongst peers. Using a group coaching model, members will build their network, improve problem-solving skills and ensure best practice.
Features of the action learning process:
- Learning through questioning and the issue holder remaining the expert in their issue. Learning and insight are generated through focus and reflection, followed by the individual taking away their actions and then reporting back on their progress.
- Value comes from hearing others talk through problems and identifying options.
- Questioning, listening, and decision-making skills are developed.
In a peer learning group, the facilitator plays an important role in guiding and encouraging the members to maintain structure and focus. The facilitator is not there to give advice on the issues discussed in the group but to help the members learn from each other and for themselves. The facilitator is usually an experienced trainer who uses a tried and tested model to help members who may be unfamiliar with the process of peer learning.
What's involved?
The programme consists of five sessions, the first and last of which are in person and the others online. Sessions are held on Thursdays as follows:
Session 1: 13 Nov 2025 10am-12:30pm in person (Hatfield)
