Summary
We are looking for volunteers to join our Learning Team, delivering lessons in our Victorian Classrooms or teaching social history sessions to school trips.Detailed description
At the British Schools Museum, we offer the chance to experience a real Victorian lesson to schools. One of our Learning Team takes on the role of Teacher, dressed in full Victorian costume, and delivers a lesson as it would have been experienced in 1840 or 1880.
Alongside these lessons, the children take part in history sessions with the rest of the team in which the younger ones can learn about Victorian toys and play, and the older children can learn about social class differences and what it meant for their Victorian counterparts.
Our Learning Team is a pivotal part of the British Schools Museum. Many of them come from an educational and teaching background, often retired teachers, but many others have come with no experience but boundless enthusiasm and capability.
We are looking to expand the team to offer different history sessions and a wider array of topics. If you feel you enjoy history, children, imparting knowledge, good communication and good company, we would love to have you join us.
Educational sessions usually take place 9.45-1.30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We ask that you be available for at least one session each month, although more are always welcome. Training is provided.
