Our unique historic educational site is over 150 years old - we are always looking for practical and enthusiastic people to help out with odd jobs on site!

We are a charity in the heart of Hitchin, our mission is to continue to legacy of our 200+ year old school by educating, engaging and supporting our local community and visitors.

As our buildings date from various 1837, 1857 and 1910s, there are always maintenance jobs that need doing, and we are incredibly grateful to those that bring their expertise, enthusiasm, and practical ability to the site. From clearing gutters to repairing window-frames, from painting walls to fixing floorboards, we couldn't keep going without such a wonderful Fabrics team.

If this sounds like something you can do and would enjoy, please do get in touch! There is always something that needs doing, and no matter how big or how small, it all makes a real difference.

You can find us at 41/42 Queen Street, Hitchin. We are only able to offer limited parking on site occasionally due to opening the site to school trips and public visits much of the time. There is free parking for volunteers a five minute walk from the museum. We are sorry that we can't offer reimbursements for travel or expenses. Due to the historic nature of our site, there are some parts that are not accessible by wheel-chair users.
