Are you passionate about walking and inspiring others to get active, outdoors and connect with nature?
We are expanding our team to support setting up and delivering walks across the beautiful countryside at Wimpole Estate.

You'd also be joining Europe’s largest conservation charity and the wider National Trust team proudly looking after 780 miles of coastline, over 250,000 hectares of land, over 500 historic houses, castles, ancient monuments, gardens, parks and nature reserves (including lighthouses, villages, pubs and a gold mine!)_We are a unique charity welcoming millions of people each year and with a vision to open up places for the benefit of everyone, for ever
What's involved?
- Being involved in our walking offer, whether that's leading the walk or helping to make sure it is safe and enjoyable.
- Walks have a leader and a back marker.
- Assisting staff with route planning and visitor information, with the possibility of offsite promotion and engagement with local groups.
- Walks leader training will be provided and regular catch-up sessions with our walks volunteer manager
- Incident management training will be covered in detail during the walks leader training including what walks leader's responsibilities are
- Being part of a team that may need to adapt and change in response to local needs, National Trust priorities or changes to Government guidelines.
We want all our volunteers to feel welcome and to have an equally positive experience when volunteering with us. So volunteers will:
- Be provided with the necessary induction, training, equipment and reasonable adjustments to do this role well and safely
- Be offered expenses to cover agreed travel costs between home and a place of volunteering
- Have remote access to to support, news and rotas via our volunteer website
This role will suit you if you are...
- Passionate about the outdoors and inspiring others to go walking.
- Reasonably fit and healthy; able to carry a small backpack and First Aid kit.
- Keen to develop the National Trust's focus on developing inclusive offers to reach more diverse audience
- Able to adapt your approach and info to suite different situations and audience
- Enthusiastic about your local environment and an ambassador for the National Trust's cause to look after special places for everyone, for ever
- Available to volunteer on a regular basis
- Someone who has access to your own vehicle due to the remote locations of some of our walk locations
- Someone who aspires to be a key player in developing this exciting new project
All National Trust volunteers will be asked to
- Respect and uphold the National Trust values while volunteering with us
- Complete training required of all National Trust volunteers and any role specific training
- Adhere to relevant policies and processes including safeguarding, health and safety, and equality and diversity
Extra information
- We’ll help you get to know Wimpole Estate, how you can help and how you will work with the rest of the team – with induction and training
- We provide equipment to help you do this role well and safely
- We’ll also cover agreed costs of your travel between home and Wimpole Estate
