Role Description: Charity Committee Member

West Herts Hospitals Charity 

Position: Charity Committee Member

 Reporting to: Chair of the Charity Committee

 Duration: 3 Years with Potential for renewal

 Time Commitment: Approx 1 day a month

To support excellence in accessible and integrated healthcare across South & West Hertfordshire by,

  •  funding innovative projects and technology that enhance care and experience 
  • Empowering and enabling NHS staff to deliver their best 
  • Building novel partnerships that add value and strengthen NHS care

Key Responsibilities for Committee members

    1. Governance and Strategy:
    • Contribute to the development and oversight of the charity's strategic plan.
    • Ensure the charity operates in accordance with its mission, values, and legal requirements.
    • Participate in setting objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the charity.
    1. Financial Oversight:
    • Review and approve budgets, financial statements, and fundraising plans.
    • Ensure the charity's resources are managed responsibly and effectively.
    • Monitor financial performance and ensure accountability and transparency.
    1. Fundraising and Advocacy:
    • Support and promote fundraising initiatives and campaigns.
    • Build and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and key stakeholders.
    • Advocate for the charity within the NHS, wider community and to potential supporters.
    1. Compliance and Risk Management:
    • Ensure the charity complies with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
    • Identify and manage risks to the charity, including financial, operational, and reputational risks.
    • Participate in the regular review of policies and procedures to ensure best practices.
    1. Collaboration and Leadership:
    • Work collaboratively with other committee members, NHS Trust Board, and charity staff.
    • Provide leadership and mentorship to volunteers and charity staff.
    • Actively participate in committee meetings, sub-committees, and working groups as required.

Person Specification:

We are looking for individuals who show Commitment to the Charity’s Mission: Demonstrated passion for enhancing patient care, staff wellbeing, and community health.

We are particularly looking for individuals who represent:-

    • Financial Acumen: Understanding of financial management, budgeting, and fundraising principles.

Desirable Qualifications:

    • Professional qualifications in finance, business administration, or a related discipline.

Application Process: Interested candidates should submit their CV and a cover letter outlining their suitability for the role to Jonathan Rennison by  Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a discussion with members of the Charity Committee.
