We're looking for a District Treasurer who can help with our finances, Charity Commission reporting and day-to-day account management.
Watford North Scouts is looking for a new Treasurer to join our Trustee Board. If you're happier balancing the books than pitching a tent, this is a brilliant way to support hundreds of local young people without needing to run a section yourself. Much of it can be done from home, at times that suit you.
You don't need to have been involved in Scouts before, and you don't need to be a qualified accountant — just comfortable with numbers, organised, and willing to learn. We'll support you every step of the way.
What you'd be doing
As Treasurer you'd be the Trustee Board's lead voice on money. Day to day and across the year, that means:
- Keeping clear, accurate records of the District's income and spending
- Preparing a yearly budget with the board and keeping an eye on it through the year
- Giving the board simple, regular financial updates so everyone knows where we stand
- Making sure bills are paid, membership fees are collected, and money is handled safely
- Preparing the annual accounts and report for our AGM, and arranging for them to be independently examined or audited
- Helping us follow Scouts' rules (known as POR) and charity guidance, including the updated financial reporting rules coming in from 2026
- Supporting Group Treasurers across the District with friendly advice when they need it
What we're looking for
- Someone comfortable and confident working with figures and keeping things organised
- Honesty, good judgement, and a willingness to keep information tidy and up to date
- Basic computer skills (we use [software, e.g. online banking / a simple accounts system])
- A commitment to the values of Scouting and to keeping young people safe
- Aged 18 or over (a requirement for all trustees)
Bookkeeping, finance, or charity experience is a bonus, but honestly not essential — enthusiasm and reliability matter more.
