Are you interested in helping people with a learning disability in SW Herts?

Do you have skills from a charity, social care or business background?

Watford Mencap is looking for trustees to bring new skills and experience to enrich and diversify the existing Board.

As a Trustee you will formulate strategy for the organisation, ensuring the organisation structure is in place to deliver our business plan. Setting goals and measuring performance and supporting the senior management team.

In addition to focussing on the strategic direction and governance of the charity you will be an “ambassador” for Watford Mencap. Watford Mencap is a self-funding charity supporting people with learning disabilities in SW Herts.

The time commitment is around 6 hours a month, including attending 4 committee meetings and a strategy day per year and joining a sub-committee.

We are keen to ensure our board fully represents the community we support and applications would be particularly welcome from people who have current knowledge, skills and experience in:

·      health and social care, charity, public or commercial sector

·      communications

·      marketing and fundraising

·      IT

Or from:

·      the families we support

·      people with a passion for making a difference to the lives of people with a learning disability in SW Herts

Previous governance experience isn't necessary as long as you’re willing to learn and are able to work within specified guidelines. You must be motivated to help people with learning disabilities and understand how learning disabilities affect people and the issues they can face.

For further information about the role and expectations and how to apply, or for an informal discussion about the role please contact Michelle Hamilton.

The closing date is: 6th March 2023

Applicants will be expected to participate in an interview. We will undertake an enhanced DBS clearance and references for successful candidates.

Watford Mencap nurtures diversity by being inclusive. We will consider all applications for this position, regardless of their age, race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disabilities or other characteristics.
