Support the successful day-to-day running of the café within the library, working as part of a team alongside staff and other volunteers:

Volunteer Café Assistant – Watford Mencap

Watford Mencap manages the Café in the Library. Our staff supervise adults with a learning disability and help them to carry out tasks to build their confidence. We are looking for volunteers to:

    • Engage with service users, staff, trainees and fellow volunteers in a respectful, friendly and professional manner
    • Engage positively with trainees and support them in developing their confidence and practical skills.
    • Provide social interaction and encouragement to service users, helping them participate in activities and develop new skills while building on existing abilities.
    • Assist customers during busy lunchtime periods and provide friendly and efficient service.
    • Serve customers a range of hot and cold drinks, cakes, sandwiches, paninis, rolls, fruit and snacks.
    • Operate the till system, process sales and take payments.
    • Help maintain a clean, tidy and welcoming environment
    • Restock food, drinks and other café supplies as required.

Additional Information:

Volunteers are not responsible for providing one-to-one care or working alone. Volunteers will work alongside staff and trainees, who will provide guidance and support. Experience of working in a café or kitchen would be advantageous.
