Come and be part of our brand-new garden at The Red Shed in Welwyn Garden City.
The Red Shed is getting ready to launch our new garden in Welwyn Garden City, and we're looking for friendly, welcoming volunteers to join us from the very beginning.
Our garden sessions bring together people living with dementia and their carers in a relaxed outdoor setting, with gardening, craft activities, conversation and plenty of tea and coffee along the way.
You don't need to be an experienced gardener and you don't need any previous experience of supporting people living with dementia. More than anything, we're looking for kind, friendly people who enjoy being around others and would like to help us create a warm and welcoming place where everyone feels they belong.
What you might be doing?
- Welcoming people as they arrive
- Joining in with activities and conversations
- Supporting participants with gardening, crafts and other activities where needed
- Having a cuppa and providing a listening ear where needed
- Helping our workshop leaders set up and pack away sessions
- Making tea and coffee
- Helping with simple gardening jobs and looking after the garden
- Most importantly - helping us create the friendly, relaxed atmposhere that makes The Red Shed so special.
What you'll gain...
Volunteering at The Red Shed is about becoming part of a community.
You'll receive an induction and ongoing support from our team, along with opportunites for training and regular volunteer meet-ups. We also organise social get together that bring our staff, volunteers and Red Shed members together.
Its a lovely opportunity to meet new people, spend time outdoors, learn move about supporting people living with dementia, develop new skills or simply give some of your time to something worthwhile.
And because this is a brand-new Red Shed garden, you'll have the opportunity to be part of it from the beginning and help us shape the welcoming community we hope it will become.
You don't need to know your Dahlias from your Daffodils - if you're friendly, enjoy being around people and are happy to be involved - we would love to hear from you.
