Garden Club Volunteer – The Red Shed
As a Garden Volunteer, you'll play a key role in our Garden Clubs. If you love being outdoors, don’t worry about gardening experience - this role is all about communication, connection, and creating a welcoming atmosphere. You’ll support our workshop leaders to ensure participants have an enjoyable experience while engaging in garden, craft, and social activities designed to be fun and inclusive.
Typical duties include:
- Assisting with setting up sessions
- Joining in with social activities and conversations
- Helping participants with activities as needed
- Providing a listening ear for carers who appreciate a friendly chat
- Making tea and coffee
- Assisting with tidying up after sessions
- Helping to maintain the garden with general gardening tasks
What you’ll gain:
Volunteering at The Red Shed is incredibly rewarding. You’ll receive an excellent induction, training opportunities, and regular meetups with the team. We also host social gatherings that bring together staff, volunteers, and Garden Club participants, helping you feel part of our close-knit community.
Beyond the joy of working in our peaceful garden setting, you may develop new skills, gain experience in supporting people living with dementia, or share your own knowledge. Whether you're looking to meet new people or simply enjoy giving back, this role offers a meaningful way to get involved.
Most of all, we believe you’ll enjoy your time with us!

About The Red Shed Project
The Red Shed provides gardening activities for people living with dementia and their carers. We run Garden Clubs throughout the week at our fully accessible and dementia friendly garden in Stevenage. Our aim is to improve both physical and mental wellbeing and to reduce isolation, enabling our participants to enjoy the benefits of gardening in a relaxed and safe environment. Our workshop leaders and volunteer team ensure that everyone is able to join in and that the garden is well maintained and looks fabulous throughout the year.
