Summary
Sewing team members - remote volunteering opportunity
Detailed description
The Hygiene Bank collects and distributes toiletries to those of us in our local community who have fallen into crisis. We like to do this in a way that does not increase stigma but creates a nice gift.
Whilst we occasionally get lucky and have been donated bags and washbags, we often have to find funding for this so we have been making our own - using sustainable fabrics, donated stash, old curtains and duvets etc.
We are looking for more people who would like to sew for us making longhandled tote bags, zippered washbags or drawstring washbags.
You will need a sewing machine, a stash of clean/strong material, potentially be prepared to find more material from local reuse groups. We can give you patterns.
Once made, you will need to deliver bags to us in Harpenden or put them into our Hygiene Bank donation boxes in St Albans.
This might be a great opportunity for a Sip and Stitch Group, a WI or Ladies Circle project - can be on-going support or a one off event.
Please tell us if you wish to take part so we can coordinate numbers and manage expectations.
About The Hygiene Bank
We run a Hygiene Bank in St Albans/Harpenden and also in Luton. We are tackling hygiene poverty in our local community, supporting people in crisis and in need of support.
