Our Volunteers Make the Difference


Our volunteers are the heartbeat of our shops, playing a vital role in their day-to-day operation. We are deeply grateful for the time, energy, and dedication you bring to our charity.

The income from our shops is essential in supporting our mission to provide high-quality nursing care to patients, either at home or in our Hospice. Our goal is to care not only for patients but also to support their families and friends — physically, emotionally, and compassionately.


Volunteer Role Overview

As a shop volunteer, you’ll be part of a supportive team that helps make a real difference in people’s lives.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer a warm welcome and provide friendly, helpful service to our customers.
  • Explain and promote Gift Aid to donors, and thank them for their generosity.
  • Help raise awareness of the Hospice's work by promoting fundraising events and activities.
  • Assist with sorting, steaming, hanging, and displaying donated items following the shop manager’s guidance.
  • Operate the till confidently and handle cash transactions accurately.


Skills and Qualities We Value:

  • Honest, respectful, and trustworthy.
  • Positive, enthusiastic, and eager to learn.
  • Confident in communication and basic numeracy.
  • Creative in presenting shop displays to encourage sales.
  • Reliable, flexible, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Enjoy meeting new people and providing great customer service.


Training & Support:

  • Full training and ongoing support provided.
  • Access to relevant training such as Health & Safety, Fire Safety, and Equality & Diversity.

Dress Code:

  • Smart-casual, clean, and presentable attire with comfortable shoes.
  • A volunteer badge will be provided and must be worn while on duty.


Availability:

Time and availability can be discussed with the Shop Manager.

Ideally, we ask for a commitment of four hours per week (e.g., 9am–1pm or 1pm–5pm), but we are happy to be flexible wherever possible.
