Summary

As a Volunteer Driver with Brainkind you’ll be helping provide incredible care to people with life-limiting illness and their families and carers.

Detailed description

Activities in this role will include:

  • Providing transport for patients to and from the Centre for out patient visits or community activities
  • Ensuring that your vehicle is safe and insured to for patient transportation
  • Maintaining contact with the centre and informing the nursing team of any concerns you may have about the patient e.g. patient unwell on journey, difficulties with access, uncomfortable with passenger behaviour. 
  • Potentially offering assistance to a patient, to help them out of the car and ensure that they safely make it to their appointment. 
  • Ensuring that patient information is stored appropriately to protect confidentiality.
  • Talking to passengers if that’s what they want, extra consideration should be given to patients on their first Hospice visit as they may be shy or anxious.
  •  Maintaining accurate maintenance and mileage records.


How often we’d like your support

This role is flexible and will be agreed on an individual basis with your local centre.


The skills and experience you’ll need for this role

You will need to

  • Have a fully insured vehicle with a valid MOT certificate.
  •  Have a current driving licence, held for a minimum of one year. Clean driving licence preferable, however penalty points acceptable at discretion of Line Manager.
  • Be reliable and professional. 
  • Have a warm, friendly, adaptable, caring approach.
  • Be able to work within personal and organisational boundaries.
  • Be able to read a map/sat nav and plan a route.
