What is NHCVS Staying Connected
Staying Connected helps tackle digital poverty by providing free devices, SIM cards, and friendly training to people across North Herts and Stevenage.
Our aim is simple: to make sure no one is left behind in an increasingly digital world.
We are looking for patient, friendly volunteers to become Digital Champions, supporting local residents to build confidence using technology and stay connected with loved ones, services, and their community.
What will you be doing?
We can offer a range of opportunities
· Supporting individuals one-to-one with tablets, laptops or smartphones
· Facilitating group sessions on topics such as scam awareness, and digital safety
· Showing people how to set up email, use video calls, and access online services safely.
· Offering encouragement, reassurance and patience as people learn.
· Occasionally helping with device set-up or basic troubleshooting
· Making a big difference to someone’s everyday life by helping them feel more connected and independent
Skills and qualities
You don’t need to be an IT expert – just someone who is:
· Patient and empathetic
· Confident with everyday digital tasks (email, video calls, browsing)
· Friendly, reliable, and enjoys helping others learn
When and where
· Around 1-2 hours a week but we’re flexible
· Sessions usually take place in community venues across North Herts and Stevenage
· Some opportunities to facilitate group sessions and 1:1s
Support
· Training and resources are provided
· You’ll never be expected to manage complex tech issues alone – this role is about encouragement and confidence building
· You’ll have ongoing support from the Staying Connected Project Lead
Training provided
· Introductory training in digital support and safeguarding
· Ongoing guidance and resources to help you feel confident in your role

Staying Connected provides free laptops, tablets, and mobile phones to people in need in North Herts and Stevenage. We also offer free training and six-month SIM cards to help people stay connected, access healthcare, and improve their lives.
