Join the grand finale and make the last weekend un-fur-gettable for trail-goers.

Why we need you:

Throughout Lions on the Loose, there will be several different ways to support our pride of magnificent lion sculptures that will be on display in Harlow, Epping and Loughton this summer as part of our spectacular public art trail raising vital funds for St Clare Hospice.

As a volunteer, you will be an essential part of the trail. Not only will your contribution help the project run smoothly, but by giving us your time, we can concentrate on raising money to ensure the best possible care for our patients.

As a Farewell Event volunteer, you will help deliver a warm, safe and enjoyable experience by welcoming visitors, supporting activities and event operations, and assisting with fundraising through merchandise and raffle sales.

You can volunteer for this role as an individual or as part of a team (e.g. through your workplace or organisation, or with friends and family).

What this role involves:

  • Welcoming and engaging visitors at our Farewell Event on 19 & 20 September, helping to create a warm and memorable experience from the moment they arrive
  • Running fun activity stalls such as hook-a duck, spin the wheel, lucky dip etc.
  • Supporting smooth event operations such as car park co-ordination
  • Helping manage crowds and marshalling key areas, ensuring everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience
  • Assisting at the admin desk, providing helpful information and behind-the-scenes support
  • Selling merchandise and raffle tickets, playing a key role in boosting fundraising efforts

The skills you need for this role:

  • Friendly and outgoing personality
  • Good communicator, confident talking to and engaging with people
  • Ability to represent St Clare Hospice positively
  • Can-do attitude

What’s in it for you:

  • Make a real impact in your local community and be part of something bigger than yourself
  • Learn new skills and gain valuable hands-on experience that can boost your personal and professional growth
  • Connect with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, broadening your perspective in meaningful ways
  • Build confidence and self-esteem
  • Create lasting memories and meaningful relationships

What commitment we need from you:

  • Availability to support with one of the following:
  • Helping set up the pride at the Farewell Event venue in Harlow
  • Volunteering on the event date itself
  • Assisting with relocating the lions for their final community appearance
  • Commitment to at least one two-hour shift across the relevant event dates
  • Confidence in speaking with visitors, sharing information about Lions on the Loose, the inspiration behind the project and the work of the Hospice
  • Willingness to provide practical, hands-on support as part of the team carefully relocating our majestic sculptures

If your application is successful:

You will be required to attend one of our Lions on the Loose volunteer induction days on either:

  • Friday 17 April at 1.30-3.30pm at the Hospice
  • Tuesday 7 May at 5.30-7.30pm at the Hospice
  • Wednesday 1 July at 1.30-3.30pm via Zoom

During this session, you will meet the St Clare Hospice team, understand more about your volunteer role, complete the paperwork and some basic training needed to volunteer as part of Lions on the Loose, including how to use the Lions on the Loose app.

About St Clare Hospice

St Clare Hospice is a charity providing specialist palliative care to improve the lives of people affected by a life-limiting illness in West Essex and the borders of East Hertfordshire. Our care helps patients, their families, and carers, to make the most of every moment together, no matter how long they have left to live. We support them both at home and in the Hospice.

We have more than 500 volunteers who regularly give their time in every area of our work, including on our Inpatient Unit and in our charity shops, and we couldn’t deliver our expert care without them. Volunteering for St Clare Hospice is a great way of giving something back to your local charity that supports people at one of the most difficult times in their life.
