Help us preserve this historic asset in St Albans

Join us on the 21st of May to find out about

our volunteering opportunities,


There are a range of volunteering activities through which we maintain, demonstrate and explain this important historic asset to the public. We aim to keep it interesting, fun and show off a great little community asset. So do please think about joining in.

  • Hosting our visitors
  • Demonstrating signals and points
  • Developing the gardens and site
  • Conserving the display items
  • The garden railway
  • The Signal Box Museum
  • The Signal Box Operating Floor
  • Railway history in St Albans

If you have an hour or more on the afternoon of Sunday 21st May, come and see how you can get involved. Tour the site, meet our volunteers and learn about how we operate the Signal Box and our Charity

We are just by the City Station in Ridgmont Road - from the station exit, head south across the car park

About St Albans Signal Box

Come and visit the largest preserved Midland Railway signal box in the UK and one of the few preserved boxes that's open to the public and next to a busy main line railway. Hands on bells, levers, point and signals. Demonstrations, refreshments and garden railway for the toddlers.
