This role requires the volunteer to have a rescue dog live in their home between 1-3 months before it moves on to the official Assistance Dog training.
As a foster carer, you become an essential part of the journey to empower Veterans with PTSD. By providing a safe and loving environment for these remarkable dogs during their training period, you enable them to develop the skills and abilities necessary to support their future Veterans. Your role directly contributes to the success of the programme and helps create life-changing partnerships.
The role involves having one of our pre-assessed dogs from The Dogs Trust to live with you, in your home full time for about 1-3 months. This is to enable to dog to settle into life outside the rescue centre and to start some basic training.
When you have a dog in your care, we would require you to be able to travel on a Tuesday and Saturday morning to our training sessions in Dacorum. There is room for flexibility but we would prefer that you can attend at least once a week.
Ideally you would have some previous experience of living with and training dogs and a household that is willing to accommodate the needs of a rescue dog, this includes a secure garden. You will have all costs covered and training provided.
