There are lots of ways you can volunteer for Samaritans, it all depends on your strengths, the areas you’re interested in, and how much time you’ve got to give.

In the last year our dedicated volunteers at Hitchin Branch have taken over 20,000 calls, spent around 6,000 hours on the phone and responded to online chat requests at a rate of over 65 a month.

Listening volunteers answer calls and messages from people who really need someone to talk to.

You don’t need to have been through a particular life experience or be from a certain walk of life. Anyone who wants to help others, is tolerant and open-minded is welcome to apply. Full training is given but the biggest thing you get is the incredible satisfaction of knowing you’re helping people who are in despair.

If that's not for you there are loads of other ways you can help us.

Support volunteers are always needed and can help in a variety of ways: marketing our services; fundraising; organising events; providing IT support; and much more.

You can find out more and apply on our website.
