Could your experience help an adopted young person thrive? Volunteer as a youth mentor.

Could your experience help an adopted young person thrive?

We're looking for volunteer mentors to support adopted young people across Hertfordshire. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a new programme with Safe Space and AdoptEast.

Many adopted young people face unique challenges linked to identity, belonging, confidence, relationships and emotional wellbeing. Having a trusted adult who understands their lived experience as an adopted person, listens, understands and believes in them can make a life-changing difference.

"I've been where you are." For many adopted young people, hearing these words from a trusted adult can be incredibly powerful. You don't need to be an expert. You just need to be someone who cares.

We want to hear from:

 Adopted people (over 18)

 Adoptive parents and family members

People with a personal connection to adoption, either professionally or personally

We would particularly like to hear from young adults aged 18 to 25 years who have received support themselves and want to share their journey with others.

Why become a mentor?

A mentor provides:

    • A listening ear
    • Encouragement and support
    • A positive role model
    • Consistency and reliability
    • Hope and confidence
    • Sharing your own lived experience to help a young person

What support will you receive?

✓ Full training

✓ Ongoing supervision

✓ Safeguarding guidance

✓ Mentor support network

✓ Expenses reimbursement

What will you be asked to do?

Mentor 1 young person for 1 hour a weekly over a 3 to 6 month period.

Could you be the mentor they're waiting to meet?
