CHAIRPERSON ROLE DESCRIPTION
Charity name: ROYSTON & DISTRICT COMMUNITY TRANSPORT
RDCT is a company limited by guarantee, so this limits individual trustee liability - provided the charity’s objectives have been pursued with reasonable care and skill.
Job Title: Volunteer – TRUSTEE / DIRECTOR & CHAIRPERSON
Office Location: Royston Hospital, London Road, Royston
Report to: Board of Trustees/Directors
Remuneration: Expenses only, on production of receipts
Aims and requirements
for the Post: To apply good governance to the charity registered as Royston & District Community Transport.
Leadership skills, experience of committee work, tact and diplomacy, good communication and interpersonal skills, impartiality, fairness, and the ability to respect confidences.
Key Responsibilities: In addition to the general role as trustee the following should apply: -
a) Planning the annual cycle of trustee meetings, currently 4 meetings per year plus annual AGM
b) Setting agenda for board meetings in conjunction with the company secretary
c) Chairing and facilitating board meetings
d) Giving direction to trustee policy making
e) Monitoring that decisions taken at meetings are implemented
f) Representing the organisation at functions and meetings, (or arranging for another trustee or the manager to deputise) and acting as a spokesperson as appropriate
g) Office Staff
o liaising with the manager to keep an overview of the organisation’s affairs and to provide support as appropriate
o Leading the process of appraising the performance of the staff in conjunction with the HR trustee
h) Bringing impartiality and objectivity to decision making
i) Facilitating change and addressing conflict within the board of trustees and within the organisation, liaising with the manager to achieve this

Royston & District Community Transport offers door-to-door transport 7 days a week for people living in Royston, the surrounding villages of North & East Hertfordshire, South Cambridgeshire, and Northwest Essex. It is for people who are unable to use conventional public transport for reasons of age, frailty, impaired mobility or the lack of public transport, and do not have the use of a car. Volunteer drivers provide transport using their own cars and the scheme also operates wheelchair-accessible minibuses and Multi-Purpose Vehicles.
