Can you provide a reassuring manner and friendly face to our patients and visitors?

Join Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care as a Volunteer Receptionist at Grove House and play a vital role in supporting patients, families, visitors and staff every single day.

You’ll be the first friendly face people see and the reassuring voice they hear — helping create a warm, supportive environment at a time when it matters most.

🌼 What you’ll be doing

As a valued member of our reception team, you’ll help everything run smoothly. Tasks may include:

  • Giving visitors a warm, friendly welcome when they arrive
  • Answering phone calls, taking messages and passing them on to the right people
  • Helping visitors feel comfortable while they wait for appointments
  • Signing visitors in and supporting general enquiries
  • Accepting deliveries and donations (with support from staff)
  • Keeping the reception and waiting area tidy and welcoming
  • Helping with refreshments, directions and information
  • Selling raffle tickets, lottery tickets or small shop items

Every interaction you have helps create a calm, reassuring experience for people visiting our hospice services.

🌟 What’s in it for you?

Volunteering with us gives you so much more than just the chance to give back:

✅ A warm, welcoming team

You’ll be part of a friendly, supportive environment where volunteers are truly valued.

✅ A rewarding role with real impact

Your presence helps patients, families and visitors feel supported and cared for from the moment they arrive.

✅ Build confidence and experience

Gain experience in a professional reception setting — great for confidence, communication skills and your CV.

✅ Full training & ongoing support

You’ll have a named line manager, clear guidance, and training on systems and procedures — you’re never on your own.

✅ The feel‑good factor

Small acts of kindness make a big difference. You’ll leave knowing you’ve helped someone’s day feel a little easier.

✅ Expenses covered

We’ll reimburse reasonable travel expenses if you wish to claim them.

💜 Who we’re looking for

You don’t need previous receptionist experience — we’re looking for someone who is:

  • Friendly, approachable and calm
  • A good listener with a reassuring manner
  • Comfortable answering the phone and passing on messages
  • Confident using basic IT (training provided)
  • Sensitive to people who may be anxious or distressed
  • Aged 18 or over

This is a fairly active role, involving moving around the reception and waiting areas. We’ll happily talk through any support or reasonable adjustments you might need.

We're particularly looking for people to cover Monday morning and Thursday afternoon shifts, but if you have flexibility to cover other shifts as needed, that would be very helpful.

Getting there

About Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care

When serious illness strikes, we're here to help people in our community get the best out of every day. From the moment of diagnosis our specialist teams work with each individual to provide the compassionate care they need, in the place that's best for them. This is what we call: extraordinary care, anywhere.

We know that life-limiting illness doesn't just affect the individual, so we care for those around each patient, too – both during an illness and through bereavement.

It takes a whole community to provide this care to everybody who needs it. Our volunteers, supporters and champions in the community are the driving force behind everything we do.
