Purpose of this role
The rehabilitation team consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Rehab Assistants and other Volunteers.
Nordic walking is a face-to-face 6-week programme for participants who are being inactive to active in a gentle way. It is run by a qualified Nordic walking instructor, and you will be supporting participants who are referred into this one-off program, once a week on Thursdays commencing on the 11th of September.
Main tasks
- Assisting the instructor with setting up equipment for the group as required
- Assisting the participants who require support with using the Nordic poles.
- Ensuring participants are well hydrated/ prompted to keep hydrated during the walk
- Support/ supervise participants who are less mobile
- Provide feedback to rehab team on any changes/concerns/ positive feedback

- Interest in walking/hiking
- Fit and well to engage in physical activity
- Enthusiastic
- Motivational
- Confidence in supporting participants without clinician's presence
- Empathetic and responsive
- Proactive with participants and feedback

We provide palliative and end of life care support, including bereavement services, within Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire and our patient services are available to adults, as well as patients transitioning into adult services (16 to 25 years.) Bereavement support is offered for all ages to families of patients and those around them, as well as throughout the community, in schools and workplaces.
We are proud to offer care in the place that best suits the individual’s needs, whether that’s at home, in a care home, in a short stay in our inpatient unit, out in the community, or in our purpose-built Living Well Centre facilities. As a hospice care charity, we have offered this support, free of charge, for over 40 years.
