Summary

Would you like to support people living with cancer? We will be running HOPE courses in Watford and St Albans twice a year for 6 weeks at a time.

Detailed description

Summary

We are looking for an empathetic volunteer to support our Senior Occupational Therapist to deliver the Macmillan HOPE or "Take control" course. The course is for people who have had cancer or who are currently relatively stable with their illness. It provides education, support and self-management strategies for people to manage their condition more independently.

You may have personal experience of living with cancer, or just want to support others.

Detailed description

We're looking for a kind, compassionate person to volunteer their time and talents at our hospice. If you have your own personal experience of cancer, or just want to help, we'd love to talk to you.

✨ What you’ll be doing:

  • Working with the Senior Occupational Therapist to introduce activities and encourage everyone to get involved
  • Listen openly and carefully to everyone, and share your own experience if relevant
  • Help to set up, prepare refreshments and tidy up afterwards

💚 What we’re hoping for:

  • Someone empathetic and non-judgmental
  • Experience or interest in working with people living with cancer
  • A willingness to work with people facing serious illness, with sensitivity and care

💚 What’s in it for you:

  • The chance to make a real difference in people’s lives during a deeply meaningful time
  • A warm, supportive environment where your presence truly matters
  • Experience working in a unique and emotionally rich setting

About Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care

At Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care, our unique care provides a lifeline of compassion and support to patients, carers, and families facing progressive life-limiting illness.

We provide palliative and end of life care support, including bereavement services, within Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire and our patient services are available to adults, as well as patients transitioning into adult services (16 to 25 years.) Bereavement support is offered for all ages to families of patients and those around them, as well as throughout the community, in schools and workplaces.

We are proud to offer care in the place that best suits the individual’s needs, whether that’s at home, in a care home, in a short stay in our inpatient unit, out in the community, or in our purpose-built Living Well Centre facilities. As a hospice care charity, we have offered this support, free of charge, for over 40 years.
