Are you a good listener with a warm, friendly nature? Would you like to make a meaningful difference by giving people time, kindness and emotional support?
We’re looking for compassionate volunteers to join us as Listener Volunteers, offering one‑to‑one or group-based support to people affected by life‑limiting illness, from diagnosis through bereavement.
⭐ What you’ll be doing
As a Listener Volunteer, you will help clients feel heard, understood and supported. Tasks may include:
- Providing one-to-one emotional support
- in clients’ homes
- at our hospice buildings in Watford or St Albans
- over the telephone
- via virtual platforms such as Zoom, Teams or Whereby
- Keeping simple records
- Attending regular supervision
- Following all RGP policies and procedures

You don’t need clinical knowledge — just a caring and reliable approach. This role will suit you if you are:
- A great listener and clear communicator
- Empathetic, patient and non-judgemental
- Able to maintain professional boundaries
- Friendly and approachable
- Reliable and able to manage your time independently
- Confident using basic IT (email, forms, virtual calls)
- Aged 18 or over

About Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care
At Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care, our unique care provides a lifeline of compassion and support to patients, carers, and families facing progressive life-limiting illness.
We provide palliative and end of life care support, including bereavement services, within Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire and our patient services are available to adults, as well as patients transitioning into adult services (16 to 25 years.) Bereavement support is offered for all ages to families of patients and those around them, as well as throughout the community, in schools and workplaces.
We are proud to offer care in the place that best suits the individual’s needs, whether that’s at home, in a care home, in a short stay in our inpatient unit, out in the community, or in our purpose-built Living Well Centre facilities. As a hospice care charity, we have offered this support, free of charge, for over 40 years.
