As a Meet & Greet Volunteer on our Inpatient Unit, you’ll be one of the first friendly faces that families, visitors and professionals see when they arrive.

A warm welcome can make all the difference. As a Meet & Greet Volunteer on our Inpatient Unit, you’ll be one of the first friendly faces that families, visitors and professionals see when they arrive — helping them feel reassured, supported and cared for at what can be a very emotional time.

💜 What you’ll be doing

  • Welcoming visitors and relatives to the unit and letting them in via the buzzer system
  • Checking who visitors are here to see and liaising with the nursing team
  • Helping ensure sign‑in procedures are followed
  • Keeping the welcome area calm, tidy and welcoming
  • Supporting visitors with kindness and empathy
  • Managing deliveries, donations and welcoming ambulance crews
  • Helping with small ad‑hoc tasks such as answering the phone

You won’t be providing clinical care — your role is all about presence, reassurance and support.

🙋‍♀️ Who we’re looking for

  • Aged 17 or over
  • Friendly, approachable and a good listener
  • Comfortable talking to a wide range of people
  • Calm, empathetic and able to follow clear procedures
  • Happy to commit to a regular shift on a rota
  • A clinical background is helpful but not essential

🌟 What’s in it for you?

  • The chance to make a real difference to families and visitors when it matters most
  • A meaningful, patient‑facing role where simple kindness goes a long way
  • Excellent experience if you’re interested in healthcare, care roles or volunteering
  • Full training and ongoing support from a named line manager
  • Paid out‑of‑pocket expenses, including parking while volunteering
  • Being part of a supportive, compassionate hospice team

Many volunteers tell us this role is deeply rewarding — challenging at times, but incredibly meaningful.

About Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care

At Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care, our unique care provides a lifeline of compassion and support to patients, carers, and families facing progressive life-limiting illness.

We provide palliative and end of life care support, including bereavement services, within Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire and our patient services are available to adults, as well as patients transitioning into adult services (16 to 25 years.) Bereavement support is offered for all ages to families of patients and those around them, as well as throughout the community, in schools and workplaces.

We are proud to offer care in the place that best suits the individual’s needs, whether that’s at home, in a care home, in a short stay in our inpatient unit, out in the community, or in our purpose-built Living Well Centre facilities. As a hospice care charity, we have offered this support, free of charge, for over 40 years.
