We’re looking for Volunteer Listeners to join our inpatient unit to offer quiet companionship, emotional support, and a safe space for patients.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Spending time with patients who may want to talk, reminisce, or simply not feel alone
  • Offering a calm, non-judgmental presence during difficult moments
  • Supporting emotional wellbeing through compassionate listening
  • Working alongside our care team to create a peaceful, comforting environment

What are we looking for?

You don’t need clinical experience — just empathy, patience, and a willingness to be present. We’ll provide full training and ongoing support to help you feel confident and valued. You need to be 18 or over.

We're particularly looking for volunteers on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday.

What’s in it for you?

  • 💬 Make a meaningful difference in someone’s day
  • 😊 Be part of a warm, supportive hospice community
  • 🧠 Learn valuable communication and listening skills
  • ☕ Tea, biscuits, and plenty of heartfelt appreciation

Getting there

About Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care

When serious illness strikes, we're here to help people in our community get the best out of every day. From the moment of diagnosis our specialist teams work with each individual to provide the compassionate care they need, in the place that's best for them. This is what we call: extraordinary care, anywhere.

We know that life-limiting illness doesn't just affect the individual, so we care for those around each patient, too – both during an illness and through bereavement.

It takes a whole community to provide this care to everybody who needs it. Our volunteers, supporters and champions in the community are the driving force behind everything we do.
