Summary
Volunteers support qualified therapists to ensure that every person who attends has the opportunity to access the activities on offerDetailed description
Purpose of this role
Our Creative Therapies team work with patients and family members to offer the opportunity to explore and express complex thoughts and emotions around the experience of dealing with life-limiting illness and loss.
Our volunteers support qualified therapists to ensure that every person who attends has the opportunity to access the activities on offer in a safe and supported environment. Without volunteers, we would not be able to offer this valuable service to so many people.
We offer out-patients a 10-week programme of creative workshop (art and craft-based activities) at our Outpatients building, Grove House, in St Albans on Wednesdays. This runs continuously throughout the year.
Main tasks
· support with setting up the art materials in the creative therapy room
· support patients in the room with any needs they may have using the art materials
· support patients in expressing their creativity in whatever way they can
· support to tidy up after each session
· support with setting up and offering drinks to patients
· ensure the patients work is kept safe and placed in the designated area for confidentiality purposes
What are we looking for?
· someone who is able to work creatively with a team of people of varied abilities and skills
· someone with an interest in using art to help with patient wellbeing
· the ability to be empathetic and patient, allowing participants to find their own way of interacting with the materials on offer
What we will provide to volunteers
💸 Reimbursement of costsAbout Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care
We provide palliative and end of life care support, including bereavement services, within Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire and our patient services are available to adults, as well as patients transitioning into adult services (16 to 25 years.) Bereavement support is offered for all ages to families of patients and those around them, as well as throughout the community, in schools and workplaces.
We are proud to offer care in the place that best suits the individual’s needs, whether that’s at home, in a care home, in a short stay in our inpatient unit, out in the community, or in our purpose-built Living Well Centre facilities. As a hospice care charity, we have offered this support, free of charge, for over 40 years.
