Detailed description
Our animal care assistants help us with the general feeding, cleaning and care of our wildlife patients at our hospital and rehabilitation centre.
You will be reporting to the Team leader, your tasks will include:
● Cleaning of animal enclosures
● Handling animal feed including raw meat
● Feeding patients and, where appropriate, administering medication
● Maintaining patient record charts
● Handling our patients for daily weighing and checking
● Keeping an eye on the health and recovery of our wildlife patients and feeding back to your team leader
● Communicating any low stock and stock shortages
● To ensure cleanliness of our general hospital facilities
● Washing and washing up
Person specification: this is a physically demanding role and to be able to succeed in this role you will need to be physically fit, and able to lift and carry. Our enclosures can be high up and low down. After an initial period of training you will need to be able to work on your own without direct supervision in carrying out your tasks. You need to be proactive, solution
orientated, have a can do attitude and be well organised.
You will be working in a team with other animal care assistants, on a shift-based rota. There are two 4 hourly shifts a day, 7 days a week, either mornings from 9 -1 or afternoons from 1-5. Sometimes we overrun and if you can be flexible we appreciate it.
When starting within our animal care team all applicants start as trainees and will progress to the full role depending on speed of progress and learning.
