We are seeking animal care assistants to help us with the general feeding, cleaning and care of our wildlife patients at our rehab centre in Rickmansworth.
Our Animal Care Assistants are vital to the daily operation of our hospital and rehabilitation centre, ensuring our wildlife patients receive the highest standard of feeding, cleaning, and general care.
Reporting to the Team Leader, your tasks will include:
- Animal Husbandry: Cleaning enclosures and maintaining high standards of hygiene throughout the hospital.
- Nutrition & Care: Handling various feeds (including raw meat), feeding patients, and administering medication where appropriate.
- Clinical Support: Handling patients for daily weighing, monitoring health and recovery progress, and maintaining accurate patient record charts.
- Operational Support: Identifying stock shortages and assisting with general laundry and washing up.
Person Specification
This is a physically demanding, fast-paced role. To succeed, you must be physically fit, comfortable with lifting and carrying, and able to access enclosures at varying heights.
We are looking for proactive, well-organized individuals with a "can-do" attitude. The ability to work independently with drive and initiative is essential; after your initial training, you will be expected to manage your tasks efficiently without constant supervision. While prior animal care experience is highly desirable, it is not essential for those who are quick learners and passionate about wildlife.
Shift Requirements:
- Intensity: This is a continuous, high-impact four-hour shift. It is designed for those who thrive in a busy environment and are comfortable remaining fully active for the duration of the shift without a scheduled break.
- Availability: We operate on a shift-based rota, seven days a week. Shifts are either mornings (09:00–13:00) or afternoons (13:00–17:00). A degree of flexibility is appreciated, as shifts may occasionally overrun depending on patient needs.
Progression
All new team members join us as Trainees. You will receive initial training and, as you demonstrate the ability to work confidently and independently, you will progress to the full Animal Care Assistant role.
