Summary

An interesting and thought provoking webinar, discussing loneliness, isolation and the positive impact that connection can have on our local communities.

Detailed description

The North Herts & Stevenage Community Transport service supports social wellbeing for both the service user and our Volunteer Drivers. We are more than just a car service; we provide the link that enables connection and participation in community life to help combat isolation and loneliness.

Every day our Volunteer Drivers are making a real difference in the community; from providing safe and reliable transport to being a friendly and caring companion. Our service offers wonderful social benefits for both the service user and the volunteer. Our service champions the vital role of volunteers.

We are seeking Volunteer Drivers to support local people who need to get to their weekly social club, day centre or support group. If you enjoy driving, have your own car and can spare a few hours a week, we'd love to hear from you, and for you to join us on our webinar. It will be a really thought provoking and interesting meeting for people who want to engage more with their local community and support local residents with their transport needs.

North Herts & Stevenage CVS Community Capacity Builder, Andy Nazer, will be our guest, and he will be leading a conversation about loneliness, isolation, and the positive impact that connection can have on our local communities, and the role Community Transport and Volunteer Drivers has on our communities and on individuals.

About North Herts & Stevenage Community Transport Service

The North Herts & Stevenage Community Transport service helps to solve transport problems for residents across North Herts & Stevenage. The service uses a dedicated team of volunteers who all use their own cars in their free time to transport local people to their required destination. The Volunteer Drivers are paid a mileage rate to cover the distance they travel which is currently paid at 45p per mile.

Managed by North Herts & Stevenage CVS, the service is aimed at individuals, both elderly and young who have difficulty using other passenger transport. This may be because of age, frailty, a disability or other mobility problems - or simply because there is no alternative form of passenger transport available. The service can take residents to a range of health and medical appointments at hospitals, to vaccinations, doctors and also to day centres and clubs..
