At Noah's Ark Children's Hospice, we help babies, children and young people with life-threatening or life-limiting conditions, and their families, make the most of every day.
We provide a range of services to support children and families, including a regular programme of Family Activities and Siblings’ Groups. These activities provide fun and free days out, allowing children and families the opportunity to meet others in similar situations and take part in new activities in accessible environments.
This is a volunteer role for people who are available at weekends. As a Family Activities Volunteer, you’ll get the rewarding opportunity to directly support children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families at a range of fun activities and events across London. We ask that volunteers for this role are able to commit to a minimum of 3 activity days a year.
Weekend availability is essential for this role, as our Family Activities and Siblings’ Groups take place primarily at weekends and school holidays.
As a Family Activities volunteer, you'll have a range of different depending on what type of activity you support:
Main activities / tasks include:
- Escorting siblings on public transport
- Supporting and befriending siblings throughout the activities
- Assisting and encouraging siblings to take part in the activities
- Providing support to Family Activities staff with tasks on the day
These groups are for the brothers and sisters of the children we support. There are three groups, ages 5-9, ages 10-13, and a youth group for siblings aged 14+.
Noah’s Ark takes their responsibility for safeguarding the wellbeing of children seriously. This role is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Application. 2 references are also required.
Training
we value the support our volunteers provide, but we also recognise that not every role will be suitable for everyone. Our volunteer interview and training process gives us an opportunity to get to know you better, make sure you receive the appropriate training and support for the role, and give you the opportunity to decide whether the role is right for you.
The process is as follows:
- Volunteer Information Session: All potential volunteers are required to attend one of these sessions before progressing with their application.
- Volunteer Interview: This will take place at the Noah’s Ark office at a mutually agreeable time. The interview is an opportunity for us to get to know you better, discuss the role and answer any questions you may have. If both you and Noah’s Ark are happy to proceed, you will then be invited to complete the required training.
- Core Training: Volunteers wanting to work directly with Noah’s Ark families are required to complete the Core Training module, which takes place on a weekend.
- Family Activities Training: A weekend afternoon session designed to prepare you for the specific requirements of the Family Activities Volunteer role.
- Safeguarding E-learning: All volunteers are required to complete a Safeguarding e-learning course as part of the onboarding process. This helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children, young people and families we support.
