Help take families with a seriously unwell child on holiday!
Join Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice and make a meaningful difference by helping families get where they need to be, safely and comfortably.
Noah’s Ark supports babies, children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, along with their families, across North and Central London and Hertsmere. As demand for practical support grows, we’re looking for compassionate and reliable volunteer drivers to join our team.
About the role
As a Minibus Driving Volunteer, you’ll provide safe, supportive transport under the guidance of our Volunteer Manager. Your time and care will help families access vital services and enjoy important moments together.
You might support with:
- Transporting families to and from The Ark for support
- Driving families home after activity days or visits
- Taking families to hospital appointments
- Delivering essential items or supporting fundraising activities
- Helping families travel to our holiday lodges in Mersea Island, Essex
If you enjoy driving and want to use your skills to support a great cause, this is a rewarding opportunity to get involved.
What we’re looking for
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. You don’t need prior experience—just the right attitude and commitment.
We’re looking for people who are:
- Friendly, approachable and a good team player
- Reliable, committed and organised
- Good communicators with a positive, can-do attitude
- Able to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Comfortable following guidance, policies and procedures
- Proactive, with good judgement and problem-solving skills
- Self-aware and open to learning
Experience working with children, young people or families is helpful but not essential.
Training and support
We want you to feel confident and supported in your role. Our training and onboarding process includes:
- Volunteer Information Session (monthly)
- Informal interview
- Core training (including confidentiality, customer service, bereavement and infection control)
- MiDAS Accessible Minibus Training (including wheelchair safety)
- Safeguarding training
Ongoing training opportunities are also available throughout the year.
Requirements
- A full, clean UK driving licence
- Fully comprehensive insurance (you’ll need to inform your insurer you’ll be volunteering)
- Willingness to complete an enhanced DBS check and provide two references
Time commitment
Flexible—volunteer on a regular or occasional basis, depending on your availability and family needs.
Location
Transport requests typically take place across Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Camden, Islington, Hertsmere and central London.
Minimum age: 21
If you’re looking for a flexible volunteering role where you can make a real difference to families’ lives, we’d love to hear from you.
