At Noah's Ark Children's Hospice, we help babies, children and young people with life-threatening or life-limiting conditions, and their families, make the most of every day. And we support those who die young to do so in as much comfort as possible, surrounded by family. We have an incredibly dedicated fundraising team that help us raise the £7 million a year it takes to make this happen!
The main purpose of this role is to provide research support to the Philanthropy & Partnerships team to help research new fundraising prospects such as trusts, major donors and brand awareness individuals.
Philanthropy & Partnerships, which covers Grants, Trusts & Foundations, Major Donor and Corporate fundraising streams, is pivotal to Noah’s Ark, typically accounting for around 75% of the charity’s overall income.
We are looking for a volunteer with strong research skills and great attention to detail to research grant-making organisations and identify potential new supporters for Noah’s Ark.
Noah’s Ark takes their responsibility for safeguarding the wellbeing of children seriously. This role is subject to two references and an enhanced DBS check.
Opportunities of the role:
- Prospect research is a key role in supporting our fundraising team in identifying potential supporters. The volunteer will be directly contributing towards our fundraising efforts in this way.

Main activities/tasks:
- Assess published lists of grant-making organisations and ascertain whether they are suitable to receive a fundraising approach from Noah’s Ark
- Carry out additional research online to support your findings, as appropriate
- Accurately log the outcome of this research, including highlighting key information required by the fundraising team
- Flagging any time sensitive opportunities identified in your research to the fundraising team
Qualities/ experience/ skills needed:
- Passion for Noah’s Ark and the work we do
- Good research and analytical skills
- Previous experience of working in admin or within an office environment desirable but not essential
- Flexible and have a positive attitude; ability and desire to work effectively with others as one team

Interviews, training and assessment process:
At Noah’s Ark, we value volunteer support, and we are also aware that not all roles are suitable for everyone. The interview and training process is in place to ensure that the Noah’s Ark staff get to know more about you, that you are given the correct training for the role and that you can find out if this is a role you would like to undertake. The training process is as follows:
- Attend a Volunteer Information Session: all potential volunteers have to attend one of these sessions before they are able to get involved in any capacity
- Informal Interview This will take place at the Noah’s Ark Office at a mutually agreeable time.
- Core Training Any volunteers wanting to work directly with, or who come into contact with Noah’s Ark families are required to attend the 6 hour training which is run at regular intervals throughout the year
- Safeguarding E-Learning An e-learning module on protecting the welfare and wellbeing of children and young people, along with Noah’s Ark’s processes and procedures.
