We are looking for a new chair person for our Scout group.

The Trustee Board is a team of volunteers who work together, as charity trustees, to make sure Scouts is run safely and legally. At the heart of their role is a focus on strategy, performance and assurance. Effective Trustee Board governance helps our volunteers deliver fantastic programmes that give young people skills for life.

The Chair leads the Trustee Board and the recruitment for new trustees. They objectively chair the Trustee Board meetings (3 per year) and the Annual General Meeting, set the meeting agenda and plan its schedule. They make sure that all Trustees are properly trained and understand their own responsibilities.

They liaise with the Group Lead Volunteer and other trustees to ensure the group is meeting all the relevant Scout policies. It would be helpful if the applicant can spearhead a drive to expand the volunteer team

Narrowly defined, the Chair role requires just a few hours per month. Ideally, the Chair would also get involved in helping run the group more generally. There are a variety of ways they could do so. This would include:

* Helping to run Beaver/cub/Scout meetings, either in or out of uniform

* Acting as treasurer for Cubs

* Liaising with the key holder team to allocate volunteers to open and close the hut for one off hires.

* Quartermaster

These roles would increase the hours required, depending on which one/s were taken on.

Much of the role can be performed remotely, but you will need to visit the Scout meeting Hall from time to time, so in practice you will need to be reasonably close to Harpenden. Meetings are thrice a year and take place on Wednesday evenings. Most other activities can be carried out at a time to suit the person performing them.

The recruitment process will be informal. We just need to understand your background and relevant experience. We are keen to fill this role as soon as possible, so it is better to apply without delay, rather than spending time creating the perfect CV. We will make a decision as soon as we have a suitable applicant.

When an application is received, we will set up an informal meeting at the Scout Hall to explain more specifics of the role and check that the applicant is suitable.
