Who we are:

Hertfordshire Mind Network is a mental health organisation that promotes mental well-being and provides a diverse range of recovery orientated services to residents across Hertfordshire. We are the largest mental health provider in the county and provide support to over 5000 clients every year.

About Nightlight:

Hertfordshire Nightlight is an out of hour's crisis service providing a safe, welcoming space for people who are feeling distressed, and experiencing a mental health crisis.

The Nightlight Safe House is open every weekend of the year from Friday 7 PM till Tuesday 9 AM

The Nightlight Safe House helps people experiencing a mental health crisis can de-escalate, re-centre and refocus in a safe and supportive environment.

Purpose of post: 

We are seeking Volunteers for Nightlight to work a minimum of three hours one weekend to give emotional support and provide activities to people experiencing a mental health crisis.

 Working alongside paid staff, this is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to increase their understanding of mental health issues and provide support within their local community and develop your own skills in a particular area that is of interest to you

Main tasks:

·        Engage with clients with activities

·        Support guests with making their food and drinks

·        Engage with clients through talking and active listening

·        Report any safeguarding issues immediately to a member of staff

What we are looking for:

People to facilitate activities such as:

·        Running a film night

·        Arts and crafts activities painting/crochet/knitting

·        Music therapy

·        Yoga and meditation

·        Aromatherapy

·        Encouraging healthy eating and lifestyles

·        Good listening skills, non-judgemental attitude, and empathy

·        Confident and effective communication

 

 

What you can expect from us and what we can offer you:

·        All volunteers will receive training in mental health awareness, handling crises, confidentiality, boundaries, risk management, safeguarding, plus on-going training relevant to the role.

·        Volunteers will also receive a specific Nightlight training to ensure a comprehensive induction to the service.

·        Regular support from Peer Mentor Coordinator (Crisis).

·        Access to listings of paid-work opportunities within HMN when they arise.

·        Flexibility to volunteer on weekends and evenings to accommodate busy schedules.

Nightlight is an out of hours Mental health crisis provision in Hertfordshire, providing a warm, welcoming, non clinical and safe environment for adults in crisis. We offer emotional support, a listening ear, engage in craft and leisure activities, signposting and provide generally a safe, comforting, warm and welcoming space to chat over a cuppa!
We provide 365 days a year support via Crisis Cafe visits in the evenings, a Nightlight helpline every evening of the year from 7pm - 1am, and a weekend Nightlight Crisis House Provision with 4 bed overnight capacity for 4 nights, Fri, Sat, Sun and Monday. Established 7 years ago, operating out of hours throughout Hertfordshire, supporting people in a non clinical, person-centred, non judgmental way.
