We're looking for someone with practical skills to support our group, occasional help at sessions would be a bonus if available.

Practical Volunteer – Extra Pair of Hands

Are you retired (or just have a bit of spare time) and enjoy getting stuck in with practical jobs? We'd love to have you on board!

We're looking for someone who's happy to lend a hand with the behind-the-scenes jobs that help keep our Scout group running smoothly. You don't need to commit to everything – just help out when you're available.

Some of the things you might help with include:

  • Changing gas hoses on our catering equipment and making sure everything is safe and ready to use.
  • Keeping an eye on gas bottle levels and helping organise refills when needed.
  • Being an extra pair of hands when it's time to put away and re-fold the mess tent after camps and events.
  • Cooking burgers and sausages on the BBQ for events like our AGM and other group gatherings.
  • Supporting sessions where young people are learning practical DIY skills – sharing your experience, supervising safely, and encouraging them to have a go.
  • Helping with the odd repair, maintenance job, or practical project around our equipment and headquarters.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys practical tasks and solving problems.
  • Has a bit of common sense and is happy to muck in.
  • Is patient and enjoys helping young people learn new skills.
  • Doesn't mind the occasional camp, event, or evening session.
  • Likes being part of a friendly team and having a laugh along the way.

In return, you'll meet some great people, put your practical skills to good use, help young people gain confidence, and know you're making a real difference to your local Scout group.

If you're the sort of person who can't walk past something that needs fixing without wanting to sort it, we'd love to hear from you!
