Volunteer Role: Complementary Therapist at Hummingbird Cancer Support Group
Role Overview
As a Complementary Therapist, you will offer therapies to individuals diagnosed with cancer, as well as their friends, families, and carers. Sessions are held at South Mill Arts, Bishop’s Stortford, every Monday from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Please arrive by 10:00 AM for a 10:15 AM briefing.
Responsibilities
- Provide complementary therapies to members.
- Attend briefings to stay updated on appointments and any changes.
- Support and interact with members, even when not booked with clients.
- Follow guidelines within the Codes of Practice for any client issues.
Requirements
- Professional qualifications in your therapy field; oncology training is a plus but not mandatory.
- Membership in professional associations (e.g., FHT, CTha) is recommended.
- Appropriate insurance to practice; group insurance available if needed.
- Submit professional qualification certificates and identification.

- Excellent listening skills and attention to detail.
Commitment and Benefits

Recruitment and Induction
- Complete our Volunteer Management System (VMS) and Volunteer Induction Program (VIP) within three months of starting.
- A mentor will support you through the induction process.
- Complete the initial online course before your first client appointment.
- Participate in a 6-monthly review for feedback and further integration.
Ongoing Management and Training
- Manage your volunteer profile via the VMS.
- Complete annual terms of use agreements, questionnaires, reviews, and training.
- Stay updated with ongoing training provided by us or external providers.

We are a registered charity based in Bishop’s Stortford, Herts providing support to individuals diagnosed with cancer and their family and carers. We offer physical support through complementary therapies as well as social, psychological and emotional support. Our group focuses on people’s holistic well-being and enables connections and social interaction with others on similar journeys or treatments.
