Summary
The Home-Start preparation course equips new volunteers with the skills and confidence to support families with young children.
Detailed description
The Home-Start preparation course is a short training programme designed to help volunteers feel confident and ready to support families with young children. The course introduces the values and principles of Home-Start, focusing on respect, non-judgmental support, and the importance of building trusting relationships with families.
During the course, volunteers learn essential skills such as active listening, effective communication, maintaining boundaries, and safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. It also covers practical topics like confidentiality, diversity and inclusion, and understanding the challenges families may face, such as isolation, mental health difficulties, or financial pressures.
The course is delivered in a supportive group setting, giving volunteers the chance to share experiences, reflect on their own strengths, and learn from others. By the end of the programme, volunteers are prepared to provide practical and emotional support to families in their community, helping them feel more confident, connected, and supported.
Our next course will begin week commencing 2nd February and will run for 5 weeks (one morning a week) with a break for half term.
About Home-Start Watford and Three Rivers
We support families with at least one child under the age of 5. Being a new parent can be very hard and challenging and we are very aware that childhood cant wait. Families are matched with a volunteer who supports them for 6 months by visiting them once a week.
